Injured or Bitten Tongue, Lip, or Cheek
You should put ice on the injured area. If it is bleeding, place sturdy pressure on the injury with a clean gauze or cloth. If the bleeding continues after fifteen minutes or it cannot be stopped by just putting pressure on the wound, take your child to the emergency room.Toothache
Clean the area surrounding the tooth that is painful. Your child should rinse their mouth with warm salt water or remove any food stuck between the teeth using floss. If you notice your child’s face swelling or if the pain continues, you should come into our office as soon as possible.Loss of Permanent Tooth by Accident
Comfort your child to keep them calm, then locate the tooth and hold it by the crown, not the root section. Wash off the tooth but handle it carefully. Examine the tooth for cracks, if there aren’t any, gently try to put it back into the socket. Have your child hold the tooth in its socket by biting on a gauze. If you can not re-insert the tooth, put it in a cup of milk. If milk isn’t available, put the tooth in a cup containing your child’s own saliva. Be sure not to place the tooth in water and call our office right away.Cracked or Broken Tooth
Use warm water to rinse off any debris from the area. Place a cold compress on your child’s face where the injury is. Locate and hold on to any broken tooth fragments in milk. If your child is having severe pain, contact us immediately.Use Mouthguards to Protect Your Child’s Teeth
It’s recommended that children wear a mouthguard whenever they play contact sports. You can purchase a mouthguard at a store or have your child’s dentist make them.Learn more about how CDH can help take care of your child’s dental needs.
